Ptilinopus Grey-green Fruit Dove P. purpuratus) Gr. κυροω kuroō  to validate; τρηρων trērōn, τρηρωνος trērōnos  pigeon  < τρεω treō  to flee in fear; "Genus Curotreron [Kurutreron (!)] Bp. 1854" (Heine & Reichenow 1890); "Curotreron Heine and Reichenow, 1890, Nomencl. Musei Heineani Ornith., p. 280.  Replacement name for Kurutreron Bonaparte, 1854, considered barbarous because of its vernacular roots and hybrid construction." (JAJ 2021).
