(Spheniscidae; syn. Pygoscelis †Chinstrap Penguin P. antarcticus) Portmanteau of genera Dasyrhamphus Reichenbach, 1850, penguin, and Pygoscelis Wagler, 1832, penguin; "Dasycelis, gen. nov. Differs from Dasyrhamphus, which has fourteen tail-feathers, and from Pygoscelis, which has sixteen, in having only twelve feathers in the tail in the adult stage. Type, Dasycelis antarctica (Forster)" (Mathews 1934); "Dasycelis Mathews, 1934, Bull. British Ornith. Club, LV (ccclxxxii), p. 74. Type, by original designation, Aptenodytes antarctica J.
