Hylocosmia

(Cotingidae; syn. Cotinga Purple-breasted Cotinga C. cotinga) Gr. ὑλη hulē  woodland, forest; κοσμος kosmos  ornament; "Hylocosmia nob., pro Cotinga! Briss. (Amp. cotinga L); Ampelis! Cab. M. H. II, 105, nec Linnæi; Species Americæ merid:s, minime affines typicis; a Linnæo, primum in S. Nat. XII, 1766, ad genus Ampelidis adnumeratæ. Quod genus in scriptis ejus antiquioribus, usque ab a:o 1735, pro typo A. garrulo, post Patres, duce Aldrovando, stabilitum erat.  -  Nomen "Cotinga" Briss., nil est nisi appellatio sylvarum proprii indolis, in Brasilia Catinga dictarum; verisimiliter in schedula affixa minus bene inscriptum, ut locum indicaret ubi occisa esset avis.  Nomen h. l. datum: ὑλη et κοςμος, silvæ ornamentum" (Sundevall 1872); "Hylocosmia Sundevall, 1872, Methodi Naturalis Avium Dispon. Tentamen, pt. I, p. 62.  New name for Cotinga Brisson, 1760, in order to remove the abhorrent tautonym Cotinga cotinga, and for Ampelis "Lin. 1735" Cabanis, 1859, not of Linnaeus, 1766."
