LORIUS

(Psittaculidae; Purple-naped Lory L. domicella) Specific name Psittacus lory Linnaeus, 1758. "LORIUS.  Rostrum subattenuatum; mandibula superiore valde arcuata, compressa, inferiore elongata fere integra.  Lingua setosa, tubulosa?  Alæ mediocres; remige 3tia longissima, 2da et 1ma gradatim paulo brevioribus, 2dæ 3tiæ et 4tæ pogoniis externis in medio gradatim latioribus.  Pedes mediocres.  Cauda subbrevis, subgradata, fere rotundata.  Typus genericus. Ps. domicella, Linn." (Vigors, 1825, Zoological Journal, II (VII), p. 400); "LORIUS Vigors, 1825  M— Psittacus domicella Linnaeus, 1758; type by original designation 3    ...   3 Peters (1937) used the name Domicella.  The underlying conflict was resolved by the suppression of Larius Boddaert, 1783 in Opinion 938 (I.C.Z.N., 1970)."
