Megaloscelornis

‡ (Struthionidaesyn. Struthio Ϯ Siwalik Ostrich S. sivalensis) Gr. μεγας megas, μεγαλη megalē  large, mighty; σκελος skelos  leg; ορνις ornis, ορνιθος ornithos  bird; "I am not aware of any living or fossil bird (except the Ratidæ), which has a tibia approaching in size to that of our fossil.  These two bones indicate the former existence of a carinate bird, probably allied to the adjutant, but which in stoutness and length of limb was intermediate in size between the ostrich and the emeu. I propose to call this bird Megaloscelornis sivalensis (1); the remains I hope to describe more fully on a subsequent occasion.  ...  (1μεγας  -αλος,  σκελος,  ορνις" (Lydekker 1879).
