Lathamus † Swift Parrot L. discolor) "In this portion of the Catalogue of the Psittacidæ  of New Holland were described; and the characters given of the new generic groups Nanodes, Platycercus, Palæornis, Trichoglossus, and Calyptorhynchus." (Vigors & Horsfield 1825 (nom. nud.)); "GENUS CCXIII. —NANODES, Vigors.  ...  THE Nanodes appear to be confined to the vast continent of New Holland, and the islands immediately adjoining.   Sp. 1. NANODES *  ...  These birds, or the genus Nanodes, the characters of which we have given above, have the bill and general form of Macrocercus; and, with the exception of the naked cheeks, appear perfect Maccaws in miniature. The first species enumerated, N. discolor, may be considered the type of the group.   ...  * Nανωδης nanus" (Vigors & Horsfield 1827); "Nanodes Stephens, 1826, in Shaw, General Zoology, XIV (I), p. 118.  Type, by subsequent designation (Vigors and Horsfield, 1827, Trans. Linnean Soc. London, XV, p. 274), N. discolor, i.e. Psittacus discolor White, 1790." (JAJ 2020).
● (Psittacidae; syn. Neophema Turquoise Parrot N. pulchella) "NANODES venustus.  Blue-fronted Parrakeet.  ...  GENERIC CHARACTER.  Bill entire; the lower mandible short, deep, thick, and rounded; nostrils very large, fleshy, naked; wings pointed; tarsi, toes, and claws very slender - the former manifestly longer than the hind toe; tail cuneated; the feathers narrow and lanceolate.  Nob.   Type. - Psittacus pulchellus. - Zool. Ill. 2, Pl. 73.  ...  Psittacus venustus. Linn. Trans. (Temm.) xiii. p. 121.   ——chrysostomas. Kuhl. Nov. Act. p. 51. Pl. 1.   Nanodes venustus. Linn. Trans. (Vig. and Hors.) xv. 274.    THE Ground Parrakeets of Australia, of which this is one of the most beautiful, form a small but richly coloured group of birds, remarkable for the peculiar structure of their feet, which leads them to frequent the ground more than any of their family.  In the form of their bill, wings, and tail, they exhibit a close resemblance, in miniature, to the Maccaws of the New World, and may justly be supposed to represent those birds in the Southern hemisphere." (Swainson 1829); "Nanodes Swainson, 1829, Zoological Illustrations, ser. 2, I, pl. 21 and text (not of Stephens, 1826).  Type, by original designation, Psittacus pulchellus Shaw, 1792." (Psittacidae; syn. Neophema Orange-bellied Parrot N. chrysogaster) Gr. νεος neos  new; genus Nanodes Stephens, 1826, parrot; "I have included in the genus Psephotus the members of the genus Neophema Salvadori.  Should it be considered necessary to subdivide the genus I have (ante p. 276) provided Northiella for the species P. haematogaster Gould, and propose Neopsephotus for P. bourkii Gould and Neonanodes for P. chrysogaster Latham, as these species differ quite as much from P. pulchellus, the type of Neophema, and from each other, as that species differs from P. haematonotus, the type of Psephotus." (Mathews 1912); "Neonanodes Mathews, Nov. Zool. vol. xviii. p. 279, Jan. 31st, 1912.  Type (by monotypy): Psittacus chrysogaster Latham." (Mathews, 1927, Syst. Av. Austral., I, p. 346).
