- Nesocorax
(Corvidae; syn. Corvus † Piping Crow C. typicus) Gr. νησος nēsos island (= Buton I., Celebes); κοραξ korax, κορακος korakos raven < κρωζω krōzō to croak; "Walden (Trans. Zool. Soc. Lond., 8, 1872, p74) has clearly shown that Gazzola Bonaparte is a synonym or [sic] Graucalus authors. Unfortunately Walden did not rename Bonaparte's genus and no subsequent author appears to have proposed a substitute, therefore I propose, Nesocorax with Gazzola typica Bonaparte as the type" (Riley 1921); "Nesocorax Riley, 1921, Auk, 38, p. 458. Type, by original designation, Gazzola typica Bonaparte. New name for Gazzola of authors, not Bonaparte." (Vaurie in Peters, 1962, XV, p. 261).
