Pseudortygion

(Phasianidae; syn. Coturnix New Zealand Quail C. novaezelandiae) Gr. ψευδος pseudos false; ορτυγιον ortugion  little quail  < dim. ορτυξ ortux, ορτυγος ortugos  quail (cf. genus Ortygion von Keyserling & Blasius, 1840, quail); "b) Pseudortygion Strbl.  Flügel abgerundet. Monogamisch lebende Arten." (Streubel 1842); "Pseudortygion Streubel, 1842, in Ersch and Gruber, Allgemeine Encyclopädie der Wissenschaften und Künste, sect. 3, 16, p. 291.  No species names are treated as belonging to this genus.  Under Pseudortygion Streubel introduces three new subgenera, Ortygiometra, Microplectron and Cryptoplectron, each with one or two species.  The latter subgenus includes Coturnix novaezelandiae as a species inquirenda, the only taxon mentioned not now included in Perdicula.  Despite Streubel's hesitation, type here fixed by subsequent designation, Coturnix novaezelandiae Quoy and Gaimard, 1830."
