Gouldia Bonaparte, 1850, the earliest name for this genus, is preoccupied by Gouldia Adams, 1847 [Mollusca]." (Peters, 1945, V, p. 34). For those who consider Popelairia Reichenbach, 1854, to be a replacement name, note that the type species of Gouldia Bonaparte, 1850, is Trochilus langsdorffi Temminck, 1821.
