Sthenelus, ruler of Liguria and father to Cygnus (see Cygnus); "STHENELUS* Stejneger gen. nov.   DIAGN.—Predominant color of the adults, white; young with downy or feathered lores, the down on the sides of the bill reaching almost to the nostrils, but not forming distinct loral antiæ; tertiaries and scapulars normal, not crisp; tail longer than the middle toe with claw, cuneate; inner webs of outer four primaries and outer webs of the second, third, fourth, and fifth sinuated; webs of the feet scalloped.  ...  Sthenelus melancorypha (MOL.).  Black-necked Swan.   ...   *Σενελος [sic], nom. myth., father of CYCNUS, Ov.
