Tetrapteryx

(Gruidae; syn. Anthropoides Blue Crane A. paradiseus) Gr. τετρα- tetra-  four-  < τεσσαρες tessares  four; πτερυξ pterux, πτερυγος pterugos  wing, feathers (cf. τετραπτερος tetrapteros  four-winged); alluding to the elongated tertials which extend almost to the ground, giving the impression of a very long tail (Björn Bergenholtz in litt.); "Tetrapteryx Thunberg, K. Vet.-Akad. Handl. Stockholm, 1818, p. 242.  Type by monotypy, Tetrapteryx capensis Thunb. = Ardea paradisea Licht." (W. Sclater, 1924, Syst. Av. Aethiop., I, p. 111).
