Cypselus

(Apodidae; syn. Apus Common Swift A. apus) L. cypselus  type of swallow or swift  < Gr. κυψελος kupselos  swallow; "GENUS 60. CYPSELUS (κυψελος Aristotelis)  Apus Scopoli. Cuv. Dumer.  Micropus Wolff, Meyer.  (Häkler Germ.  Martinet Gall.  Swift Angl.)  ...  Species: Hirundo Melba, Apus, Cayennensis Lin.   Nota. Nomina Apus, Micropus terminis zoographicis reddenda sunt, quam ob causam nomen Aristotelicum Cypselus, quod de nidis in foraminibus absconditis deductum videtur, generi restitui." (Illiger 1811); "Cypselus Illiger, 1811, Prodromus Systematis Mammalium et Avium, p. 229.   New name for Apus Scopoli, 1777, and for Micropus Meyer and Wolf, 1810, considered unsuitable and unclassical."
