(Charadriidae; syn. Vanellus  Black-shouldered Lapwing V. novaehollandiae) Late L. lobus  lobe  < Gr. λοβος lobos  lobe; Gr. ιβυξ ibux, ιβυκος ibukos  unknown noisy bird; in ornithology ibyx signifies lapwing or plover; "Genus Lobibyx Heine  [Lobivanellus Rchb. 1853 nec Strickl. 1847]." (Heine 1890); "Lobibyx Heine, in Heine and Reichenow, 1890, Nomencl. Musei Heineani Ornith., p. 334.  New name for Lobivanellus Reichenbach, 1853, not of Strickland, 1847."
