(Cuculidae; syn. Cuculus † Red-chested Cuckoo C. solitarius) Gr. νοτος notos south; κοκκυξ kokkux, κοκκυγος kokkugos cuckoo; "Notococcyx gen. nov., type Cuculus solitarius Stephen [sic]: colour slate, white and reddish; wing shorter than in Cuculus, the first primary shorter than the eighth, second shorter than the fourth. It comes nearest to Cacomantis of Asia, from which it differs in having the tail feathers more rounded." (A. Roberts 1922); "Notococcyx A. Roberts, 1922, Annals Transvaal Mus., VIII (4), p. 219.
