(Charadriidae; syn. Vanellus  Andean Lapwing V. resplendens) Specific name Vanellus ptiloscelis G. Gray & Mitchell, 1847 (= syn. Ptiloscelys resplendens): "the tibia sometimes covered with feathers nearly to the knee"; "40. Ptiloscelys, Bp.   101. resplendens, Tschudi. (V. ptiloscelys, Gr.)"
