Rogibyx

‡ (Charadriidae; syn. Vanellus â€  Javan Wattled Lapwing V. macropterus) John Porter Rogers (1873–1941) Australian collector; Gr. ιβυξ ibux, Î¹Î²Ï…κος ibukos  unknown noisy bird; in ornithology ibyx signifies lapwing or plover; "In the same way I would restrict Xiphidiopterus to the African species, and for the Malayan species—called Xiphidiopterus cucullatus (Temminck) but whose correct specific name is tricolor Horsfield—I would propose ROGIBYX. In the British Museum Catalogue, Vanellus tricolor Horsfield was rejected on account of a prior tricolor Vieillot, but that author introduced his species as Charadrius tricolor, and as they belong to different genera there is no valid reason for the suppression of Horsfield's name." (Mathews 1913) (see Afribyx); "Rogibyx Mathews, Bds. Austr., 3, 1913, p. 41.  Type, by original designation, Vanellus tricolor Horsfield [= Charadrius macropterus Wagler]." (Peters, 1934, II, p. 238).
