Titihoia

(Charadriidae; syn. Vanellus  Black-winged Lapwing V. melanopterus) Zulu onomatopoeia I’ titihoya for the Black-winged Plover; "Upon maturer consideration, I propose to place Stephanibyx melanopterus (Cretschmarr [sic]) and S. lugubris (Less.) in a new subgenus, TITIHOIA, of which the former species will be the genotype. The name is adopted from the Zulu name, which is derived from the call-note." (A. Roberts 1924); "Titihoia A. Roberts, 1924, Annals Transvaal Mus., X (2), p. 79.  Type, by original designation, Stephanibyx melanopterus, i.e. Charadrius melanopterus Cretzschmar, 1829." (JAJ 2021).
