A single male Stripe-breasted Starthroat (Heliomaster squamosus) in full breeding plumage was observed visiting ornamental flowers at an elevation of c. 1100 m in Itatiaia National Park, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), on 26 November 2006. As well as being at higher elevation than is usually mentioned in the literature, this observation (my only one from this protected area in many years of visits) further indicates that the species wanders to some extent, despite being usually considered sedentary.

Other participants: Hadoram Shirihai.
