I made the following (unpublished) observations of White-collared Kites (Leptodon forbesi) in the state of Alagoas (Brazil): singles at Parque Estadual Pedra Talhada, on 27 October 2002 (with G. M. Flieg, M. A. Elwonger et al.), and at Murici, on 17 September 2004 (with R. Schaefer et al.). The latter was observed giving the butterfly display flight. Both records pre-date the detailed validation and critique of the species’ identification features prepared by Seipke et al. (2011), but given the apparent lack of sympatry between White-collared Kite and Grey-headed Kite (L. cayanensis), and that I observed distinctive white collars on both birds and noted white underwing-coverts in the second, can be regarded as certainly involving White-collared Kites.
