Introduction
This wonderfully pink rosefinch is found in the Himalayas and western China. It is closely related to the Chinese Beautiful Rosefinch (Carpodacus davidianus), with which it was formerly considered nonspecific, and with the Pink-rumped Rosefinch (Carpodacus waltoni), which includes the form, waltoni, which was formerly included in the present species.

Systematics History
Propasser pulcherrimus Moore, 1856, Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London 23(1855):216. Type locality given as "Himalaya" (7).
Distribution
Central Himalayas from northern India (Himachal Pradesh) east to southern Tibet and (perhaps nonbreeding) Bhutan.

Systematics History
Carpodacus argyrophrys Berlioz, 1929, Bulletin du Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle 2(1):131. No type locality given by Berlioz (8), but "Kansu: Mt. Lieuhoashan (between Choni and Titao)" designated as the type locality by Bangs (in 9).
Distribution
Western China (southern Xinjiang to eastern Qinghai, northeastern Tibet, Gansu, northern and western Sichuan).
Field Identification
Male is similar to nominate, but longer-winged and brighter, more vinaceous, with paler streaks on upperparts.
