Introduction
Northeastern Pakistan in the Murree Hills (25, 26), east through Kashmir, Punjab, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh (northeastern India), northern Myanmar, southwestern China, and North Vietnam. Across this range, it extends south to Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal (including Kolkata), Bangladesh (27), northeastern India, central and eastern Myanmar (28), southwestern Thailand, central Laos, and North Vietnam. It occurs between 450–1,700 m in Pakistan, 150–2,000 m (rarely up to 2,450 m) in India, 250–1,550 m in Nepal, 610–2,000 m in Myanmar, 600–1,800 m in Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, and 1,000–2,000 m in China (1). In parts of its range, particularly West Bengal, Bangladesh, and Assam, it occurs in the lowlands to near sea level. After breeding, birds at higher elevations move downslope to about 150–200 m in India and Bangladesh (1).
