Effects of Human Activity

Clear-cutting of mangrove forest in Malaysia strongly decreases probability of nest occupancy, and nests are readily abandoned if cutting occurs within 150 m; in same study area, proximity to main roads and villages had no measurable effect on nest occupancy (28).
