Introduction

The Brazilian Teal is a resident of freshwater marshes, lakes, and ponds from Colombia and Venezuela south to northern Argentina and Uruguay. A small grayish-brown duck with striking greenish-blue and white wings, the Brazilian Teal has red legs and the male has a red bill as well. The species nests on mounds of plant matter surrounded by water or occasionally in tree hollows. Most Brazilian Teal are sedentary, but individuals of the southern subspecies ipecutiri have been reported north to Venezuela.
