Adult

Female. Has forehead peach-buff, wing fringes mainly greenish, and wingbars (that are equally as broad as on the male) buffish. White eye-ring is bold and distinctive. Overall, plumage is brownish, and less bright than the male, without a chestnut front.

Male. Has a dark chestnut lower forehead bordered above by a short bright yellow forecrown, shading to yellow-tinged olive-green over the rest of the crown and upperparts. The upperwing-coverts are black with broad white tips to the median and greater coverts (forming two wingbars); outer primaries with whitish fringes, and inner primaries black basally and olive-green distally. Overall wing pattern appears black with two striking white bars. Central tail olive-green, the outermost feather white with a black base and long black mark close to the tip of the outer web. Lores and area around the eye are black, eye-ring white (broken at the front and rear), with a grayish-white postocular supercilium becoming purer gray above and vertically behind the yellow-green ear-coverts. The chin and upper cheeks to central throat are dark chestnut, bordered yellow on the lower cheeks, with the neck sides, breast sides, and belly to vent yellow. Flanks pale grayish olive.

Bill

Short with a slight hook at the tip. Maxilla dark gray to black (especially posteriorly) with bluish edges and basal third, whilst the mandible is entirely bluish gray.

Iris and Facial Skin

Iris is reddish to dark brown.

Pinkish, including the claws.
