Introduction
The Siberian Nuthatch is largely resident within its central and northeastern Siberia (politically, the Russian Far East and eastern Siberia) range. It occurs northwest to circa 105–106°E and 65–66oN in the upper reaches of the Nizhnyaya Tunguska River and Vilyuy River and southwest to circa 105–106°E and 57–58oN in the upper reaches of the Lena River; the eastern edge of its range includes the lower Anadyr River Valley (not quite reaching the Gulf of Anadyr) at circa 175oE and 67oN, the northwestern Koryak Mountains and the upper Penzhina River at circa 166oE and 62oN (35, 36, 34, 37, 38, 7). The northernmost portion of its range is in the Yana River basin, where it breeds north to 68oN (39). During eruptive autumn movements, it is known to wander as far west as the Yenisei Valley at circa 91-92oE (40).
