Photos from this Account

Definitive Basic male Siberian Nuthatch.

Note the uniformly basic back and wing feathers, the blackish wing feathers with bright bluish edging, the broad tips to the primaries, and the black central rectirces, all indicating Definitive Basic Plumage. The bold black eyeline, snow white underparts, and rich rufous flanks (barely visible here) indicate a male in this plumage. Note also the extent of white in the outer rectrices, a character of Siberian vs. Eurasian Nuthatch.
