Introduction
Merida Starfrontlet is a medium sized hummingbird with a long straight black bill. Males have glittering green frontlets and their rumps, lower underparts, and tail range in color from golden orange to glittering gold. Females are shiny green becoming golden orange on their rumps and cinnamon below. This hummingbird is distributed in the Andes of western Venezuela from medium to high elevations (1400–3200 m), with some possible seasonal movements upslope during the rainy season. It inhabits the edge of humid forests where it feeds on nectar from the tubular flowers of bushes. They also hover for insects.
