Introduction

The Grayish Piculet is a range-restricted species that can be found in humid forest, second growth scrub, and woodland of northwestern Colombia. This small woodpecker is a dull grayish-white overall and has a yellow-and-white speckled forehead and crown. Exclusively insectivorous, this species can be found foraging individually or in small groups. Due to its small range and inconspicuous nature, very little information is known about this species’ breeding biology or population ecology and is an area that is wide open for future research. Despite the Grayish Piculet's restricted range, the lack of a good population estimate has prevented this species from being placed on any threatened species lists.
