Introduction

The Kashmir Flycatcher (Ficedula subrubra) is a small flycatcher found on the Indian Subcontinent. It is closely related to the Red-breasted Flycatcher (Ficedula parva) and was initially described as a subspecies of that species. It is a migratory species, with a restricted breeding range in the Himalayas and a small wintering range in South India and Sri Lanka. Its migration routes are not known. It is a less studied species, and its breeding biology is not well known. It is very vocal, uttering a series of calls during courtship as well as when feeding. The song is heard mainly in the breeding season. The Kashmir Flycatcher is a threatened species, listed as "Vulnerable", with a declining population. Habitat loss is the main threat.
