Introduction

The Lineated Foliage-Gleaner is a skulking denizen of dense cloud forest undergrowth, particularly along streams. Its presence is typically given away by its loud, scratchy chatter. It forages for arthropods alone or in pairs, sometimes with mixed understory flocks. There is little information on the breeding behavior of this species. It is widespread, occurring in the mountains of Costa Rica and Panama as well as in the Andes from Venezuela south to central Peru. The Buff-browed Foliage-Gleaner (S. rufosuperciliata), the most similar sympatric species, is whiter on the throat, lacks streaking above, and has a different voice.
