About the Author(s)

Introduction

Vicente Pantoja is a Chilean engineer, naturalist, and photographer. He entered into birding at the age of 21, and within a couple of years was participating in the Chilean NGO "Red de Observadores de Aves y Vida Silvestre de Chile" (ROC). Since then, he has been a member of the ROC, writing some chapters for the first Chilean Breeding Bird Atlas, working on bird surveys, managing data from bird surveys and eBird, and since 2018, managing the Chilean eBird portal. He is currently working to improve the knowledge of little-known passerines throughout Chile, and of the migration of Chilean birds. Email: vicentepantoja@redobservadores.cl.

César Muñoz is a Chilean biologist, naturalist, and wildlife photographer. His interest in birds began with bird photography, but over time was combined with the use of binoculars and eBird, and that’s how he began to participate in the Chilean NGO “Red de Observadores de Aves y Vida Silvestre de Chile” (ROC), where he is currently helping in a long-term population study of birds in a wetland near Santiago. As an undergraduate, he began to participate in a bird population study on the Chiloé Island in southern Chile, for the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) and the Instituto de Ecología y Biodiversidad (IEB), but then traded the humid forest for the study of urban bird ecology, and currently is doing his master’s degree on the behavioral aspects of the Rufous-collared Sparrow in Santiago, at the Universidad de Chile.
