Introduction
The Many-striped Canastero is well named on account of its heavily dark-streaked underparts, head and mantle, with the rest of the plumage being mainly brown. Its range extends from northern Colombia south to southern Peru, and it is most frequently encountered in páramo grassland with scattered low bushes where it is typically a common bird. There are few threats to its survival, especially considering its comparatively wide range, although grazing is increasing in some areas and might be having a detrimental effect on the Many-striped Canastero’s habitat. Despite its relative abundance, virtually nothing is known concerning the species’ life history and behavior.
