Introduction
El Mottled Owl es un búho forestal común en gran parte de América Central y del Sur. Es un búho de tamaño mediano que carece de penachos en las orejas y es pardo por encima y blanquecino por debajo, con estrías oscuras, ojos oscuros y pico amarillo. Otros búhos del género Strix son todos más grandes que Mottled Owl. Se pueden encontrar en muchos tipos de bosque diferentes, desde matorrales espinosos secos hasta bosques tropicales siempreverdes húmedos, y residen desde el nivel del mar hasta más de 2.000 metros de altitud. Mottled Owls se pueden encontrar por la noche por sus característicos graznidos profundos y chasqueantes emitidos en serie.
