Introduction

The Olivaceous Elaenia is a nondescript small flycatcher of eastern South America. Found primarily in southeastern Brazil but also adjacent Paraguay and northeastern Argentina, the species inhabits a wide variety of forest habitats up to 2000 meters in elevation. The Olivaceous Elaenia is olive with gray-brown wings marked by yellowish wing bars and pale olive to white underparts, quite dull overall and extremely similar to the closely related Small-billed Elaenia. Small-billed Elaenia tends to live in more open areas and generally shows three pale wing bars.
