Introduction
Pale-footed Swallow is an aerial insectivore of montane forests in the northern Andes. This small swallow is dark glossy blue above and white below with a cinnamon pink throat, black flanks, and dark blue undertail. It is rather similar in appearance to the Blue-and-white Swallow (Pygochelidon cyanoleuca), which also dark blue upperparts and is white below; Blue-and-white Swallow is larger, however, with a white throat and different vocalizations, and usually occurs in more open habitats. Pale-footed Swallow is typically restricted to temperate forest from 2400-3000 m, locally on the east slope of the Andes from Venezuela south to Bolivia. Although Pale-footed Swallow has a wide distribution, its biology is not well known.
