Introduction

Very little is known about this Near Threatened hummingbird. Pirre Hummingbird is uncommon, and is restricted to a very small range in eastern Panama and northwestern Colombia, where it occupies humid forests in the foothills and highlands. Pirre Hummingbird usually forages at flowers of shrubs or small trees at low or mid levels inside the forest. The mostly cinnamon tail, visible on both males and females, helps with its identification.
