Introduction
The distinctiveness of the Perija Antpitta compared to other, formerly conspecific, members of the Grallaria rufula complex, has never been doubted. Its drab brownish upperparts and pale whitish underparts are, in fact, so different from most others in the rufula complex that it has even been speculated to be a subspecies of the Tawny Antpitta (Grallaria quitensis) . The Perija Antpitta has a very small range that, as its vernacular name suggests, is confined to the Perijá Mountains on the border of Colombia and Venezuela. Its nesting habits and all other aspects of its general ecology and natural history remain very poorly known.
