Introduction

Dieter Oschadleus's interest in birds began with Southern Masked-Weavers in the garden while he was in high school. His interest later expanded to include all the weaverbirds. Dieter held the post of Bird Ringing Coordinator at SAFRING to coordinate banding in South Africa, from 1998 – 2018. He completed a PhD in 2005 on the primary molt patterns of southern African weavers using the SAFRING database and his own records. Now Dieter works as a bird guide and also continuing his research on weavers. Email: dieter@birds4africa.org.
