The latest IUCN Red List assessment considers the Scaly Weaver as a species of Least Concern (117).

Effects of Human Activity

The Scaly Weaver is an abundant bird throughout much of its range, and it responds positively to thornbush encroachment as a result of overgrazing, which is currently the most widespread modification of its Kalahari habitat (46).

Management

The species is not globally threatened, and is well-represented in protected areas (2). It is common to abundant in many areas.
