Food Capture and Consumption

Forages in canopy and subcanopy, moving in slow, methodical manner. Seen to pluck berry from fruiting branch by reaching out; creeps along branches in canopy, using bill to probe and pick at moss or lichens. Once seen to wipe bill on a branch. Observed mostly in pairs, also in groups of three or four individuals, and sometimes singly; single birds occasionally forage with other frugivores, including Chestnut-tipped Toucanet (Aulacorhynchus derbianus), Masked Tityra (Tityra semifasciata), becards (Pachyramphus) of the “Platypsaris group,” and mixed groups of Tangara tanagers.
