Songs
Song a fast, low-pitched trill of ca. 2 seconds, “tdddddd-,” resembles distant woodpecker drumming at fast rate; trill suggests songs of Eubucco and Brown-chested Barbet (Capito brunneipectus).
Calls
Most commonly heard call a low harsh grunt, often a single note alternating with a stuttered one; partners frequently call repeatedly to each other. Also, low-pitched quiet groans and clucks heard from individuals inside roost-hole. Other call notes described as a guttural “ggrrrakk,” similar to those of White-mantled Barbet (Capito hypoleucus).
Nonvocal Sounds
Produces a distinctive whirring noise during flight, apparently generated by the wings (2).
