Introduction
El Spot-flanked Gallinule es un Rallidae diminuto y característico, con cuatro poblaciones discontinuas en Sudamérica: se da en torno a los humedales de pantanal, ibera y entre ríos al noreste de Argentina y cerca de Bolivia, Paraguay y Brasil; en el extremo oriental de Brasil, en el centro de Chile y en el centro de Colombia. Esta especie frecuenta lagunas y pantanos. Su pequeño tamaño y su coloración críptica la hacen especialmente difícil de ver cuando se esconde entre los juncos, aunque se aventurará en aguas abiertas con regularidad. El Spot-flanked Gallinule tiene la cabeza, el cuello y las partes inferiores de color pizarra, con manchas blancas en los flancos, y el dorso y las alas de un cálido rojo parduzco.
