Introduction
A range restricted species, the Streak-backed Antshrike is resident of southern Venezuela, western Guyana and northern Brazil. Male Streak-backed Antshrikes are largely gray with black upperparts, wings, crown and tail. White spots occur on the bird’s wings, crown and tail with white streaking occurring on the intersacpular patch. Females are similar in appearance except for their paler underparts and the presence of a dark red-brown rear crown. An inhabitant of the slopes of tepuis, Streak-backed Antshrikes favor the understory and mid-story of montane evergreen forest, particularly in thickets of bamboo and stands dominated by melastome. Streak-backed Antshrikes forage singly or in pairs by taking short hops, occasionally scanning the surrounding vegetation and then making short lunges to glean prey from nearby leaves or branches.
