Introduction

An inhabitant of puna grassland, the Streak-throated Canastero can be found along the Andes from northwest Peru to northern Bolivia. Similar to other species of canastero, the Streak-throated Canastero has dull brown upperparts and pale brown underparts with a rufous-orange chin. The head, face and back of these birds are streaked dark brown and grayish buff, with narrow black streaking present on the throat. Fairly common throughout most of their range, the Streak-throated Canastero is usually found alone or in pairs. These birds are most often encountered on the ground where they glean insects from the soil and the bases of bunch-grass.
