Introduction

Superciliated Wren is a typical Thryothorus wren of the Pacific Coast of South America. With a range restricted to western Ecuador and northwestern Peru, the species prefers the undergrowth of dry woodlands below 500 meters in elevation.
It is rufous above and white below with a white throat and superciliary, mostly white cheek, buffy flanks, black barring on the wings and tail, and a heavy, decurved bill; overall it is rather similar in appearance to a close relative, the Buff-breasted Wren, but the two species do not occur together. Superciliated Wren can be easily detected in its range by its loud, fast, chortling song.
