The Tawny Antpitta is resident in the high Andes from northern Colombia to northern Peru (see eBird data). The Tawny Antpitta occurs from the eastern (alticola) and central (quitensis) Andes of Colombia southward to extreme northern Peru (quitensis), and slightly further southward in the central Andes of northern Peru in the southern Amazonas and eastern La Libertad departments (atuensis).
