About the Author(s)
Introduction
G. Derek Engelbrecht has been fascinated by the natural world for as long as he can remember. After school, he studied biology, later specializing in Zoology, and obtained his Ph.D. in 2000, working on the conservation genetics of minnows in headwater streams. He is a lecturer in Zoology at the University of Limpopo, South Africa, and serves as a mentor to many young ornithologists. A self-confessed “larkophile,” his primary research interests include all aspects of the natural history of larks. When not observing larks, Derek also studies the breeding and behavioral ecology of birds, their vocalizations, geographic variation, and their conservation. He can be reached at faunagalore@gmail.com.
