Introduction

Adriana Rodríguez-Ferraro received her Biology Degree (1994) from Universidad Simón Bolívar (Caracas, Venezuela) and her M.S. (2004) and her Ph.D. (2008) from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She has conducted extensive research on the ecology and conservation of birds restricted to the Venezuelan arid zones. She has also worked with the Plain-flanked Rail (Rallus wetmorei), focusing on its ecology, population genetics, and conservation. A founding member of the Venezuelan Ornithologists' Union, she is currently a member of the Board of Directors of this organization.
