Historia de la sistemática
Sylvia indica Vieillot, 1817, Nouveau Dictionnaire D'histoire Naturelle, Appliquée Aux Arts, à L'agriculture, à L'économie Rurale et Domestique, à la Médicine, etc. 11:267 (6). La localidad tipo figura como India (7), pero posteriormente se restringió a Darjeeling (8).
Distribución
Himalaya central y oriental, desde el norte de la India (Uttarakhand) hacia el este hasta Arunachal Pradesh y el sureste del Tíbet.

Tarsiger indicus yunnanensis Rothschild, 1922, Boletín del Club de Ornitólogos Británicos 43:10. Localidad tipo dada como "Cordillera de Lichiang, 10.000 pies" (9).
Distribución
Sur de China (noreste de Sichuan al sur hasta el norte de Yunnan), norte de Myanmar y norte de Vietnam (oeste de Tonkín).
Identificación en el campo
La subespecie yunnanensis tiene la garganta más pálida, las partes inferiores más amarillas y el respiradero más verde.
