Conservation
Conservation Status
Ocellated Quail is evaluated as a Vulnerable species globally (BirdLife International 2014), with populations that are declining drastically (Eitniear and Eisermann 2009). Many populations throughout its range have disappeared due to mining, deforestation, hunting, burning of forests and grazing; the latter is the worst since it eliminates the bulbs that are the preferred food of the quail.
Effects of human activity on populations
Human activities (hunting, logging, mining, grazing) all have a negative impact on the species population.
